Flexible Solutions

At CJ Biomaterials, we collaborate with everyone we can
to make sustainable solutions a reality.

The world’s plastic waste problem is too large for any of us to solve alone. How big of a challenge are we facing? According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 300 million tons of plastic are produced around the world each year, and at least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean, making up 80% of all marine debris found from surface waters to deep sediments.

To solve the problem of plastic waste, we need a collaborative effort with people from every point on the manufacturing value chain. One of our main activities is to work with other polymer producers to improve the environmental characteristics of their materials.

How Does PHACT™ Offer Flexible Solutions?

The tools of modern biotechnology now make it possible to precisely turn nature’s catalysts –enzymes – into microbial and plant bio-factories, producing a broad, versatile family of PHAs. Using other building blocks (i.e., monomers), the properties of PHAs can be varied from hard and stiff materials to very elastic ones. The structural diversity within the PHA family allows the engineering of PHA compositions – sustainably produced – that will be cost-effective, versatile alternatives to over half the synthetic polymers in use today.

Today, CJ Biomaterials is working with a broad range of polymer and biopolymer producers to help them innovate the environmental profiles and performance of their products. We want to be perceived as a solution developer working alongside other biopolymer producers, the chemical industry, compounders, converters, consumer products companies, regulatory agencies, and more.

There is no such thing as a sole and complete solution to the problem. The time is now for various industries to get involved and partner up for a sustainable future.
