Innovating Biomaterials for a Sustainable Future

CJ Biomaterials polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) technology is more than just a way to make products. It represents a new way of thinking about and producing materials that have previously been based on fossil fuel technology.

Advanced Biopolymer Solutions

Based on our ability to control co-monomer ratios, our polymer solutions can be either thermoplastic or elastomeric, with melting points ranging from 40 to 180°C. They are potential substitutes for polyolefins, polyethylene, terephthalate, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride. In addition, they can be blended with other plastic monomers and biopolymers to improve performance and enhance biodegradability and compostability.

Envisioning a new chemical industry

Conventional C4 and C3 chemicals are the fundamental building blocks of key segments of the industrial chemical industry valued at more than $10 billion annually. These conventional chemicals are used in a broad range of industrial and consumer products.

CJ Biomaterials’ polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) technology is a unique platform for producing bio-based chemicals. Our technology applies across the range of C2 (two-carbon) to C6 (six-carbon) chemicals. Our focus initially is on C4 and C3 chemicals. We have developed proprietary microbial strains and fermentation technology to produce biopolymer and a novel recovery process we call "FAST" to convert biopolymer into the target chemical using heat.

Our goal is to produce renewable chemicals and industrial chemicals from renewable feedstocks as 'drop-in' replacements for petroleum-based products.
