Lauren Scott, representing CJ Biomaterials and three other organizations (Danimer Scientific, Ingevity , and the Biodegradable Products Institute), spoke at Irvine City Council meeting. CJ Biomaterials, part of the South Korean CJ Group, is expanding its U.S. presence in various sectors, including biotechnology. She emphasized their commitment to developing innovative materials as alternatives to traditional plastics for single-use applications. She acknowledged the city staff’s efforts in drafting an ordinance but suggested revising its language. The current draft prohibits all bio-based products, but she addresses it should specifically target non-compostable bio-based products, aligning with the city’s intent to exclude only non-compostable items.
